The comparison site said that people whose accounts were accessed without permission or who made unauthorized withdrawals or transfers can bring claims as long as they had or currently have an account between Aug. 23, 2018 and Aug. 20, 2024.
The settlement stems from lawsuits from customers who claim Cash App was negligent when a former employee accessed their account information without permission in 2022 and when an unauthorized user accessed their account in 2023.
The plaintiffs also alleged that the app's parent company, Cash App and Block, failed to implement controls to block unauthorized users and that the company then improperly responded to customer complaints about security breaches and fraudulent transactions.
Cash App and Block denies any kind of liability or wrongdoing, according to the payments website.
